Spring Has Sprung… A Vintage Spring Break Look

Hey y’all! I know it has been forever since I have posted an outfit of the day, but things have been crazy around here! Not only have I been super busy with class and work and life in general, but it seems like it hasn’t stopped raining in weeks! However, today marks the third day of spring break and it is sunny with temperatures in the 70s! Dominic and I are headed to Kansas City for a few days of much needed vacation and I am feeling roadtrip ready in this head-to-toe vintage outfit, featuring the most amazing pair of shorts ever! I mean, come on, not only are they vintage Levi’s but they have horses on them and are perfect for pattern mixing. This is definitely one of my favorite outfits to date, so check it out below!

Snow Daze

We have had a particularly warm winter here in Arkansas. Most of January and February has consisted of short-sleeves and Saturday’s spent outside with friends, rather than bundled up by the fire with a book. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I have loved this warmer weather, but I have also been waiting for snow. It’s weird not having any snow, I mean usually January and February are full of icy roads and snow days, but we hadn’t had a single inch of snow until Sunday. It was magical, waking up Monday morning to snow on the ground and no school. So, in celebration, I broke out the snow day outfit I have had picked out for months and we ventured out on a hike into the woods for some pictures. Not exactly the warmest get up, but it was perfect for our snowy adventure!

Casual Contrast… A bold look for everyday wear

You know those pieces that we have stuck in the back of our closets? The ones that we couldn’t live without, but then never quite figured out how to wear? Yeah, I thought you would. Well for me, that “piece” are these amazing floral pants. I saw them when I was working at my old job and I simply had to have them. Honestly, how could anyone pass these up? However, when I got home, nothing quite worked. I tried t-shirts, tunics, stripes, basically anything I could even think of. Then I remembered this Brandy Melville Kimono I had purchased last summer before I went on vacation and then stuffed in the back of my closet. After that, this outfit basically styled itself. The high-contrast floral goes perfectly with the burgundy of the overlay, so I wore a simple silk camisole as a neutral in the colorful look. I then decided I wanted a pair of heels to add some femininity to this edgy look and these wedges worked perfectly and of course some layered necklaces, help bring a little more interest to the top of the outfit. I am loving this colorful look, especially since it proves to my boyfriend that not all impulse buys go unloved.

8 Looks to Set You Apart on Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, people all over are trying to make dinner reservations and/or find the perfect gift. I have spent the last couple days working on the PERFECT card for my boyfriend, the last couple of weeks apart have been particularly hard on us and to save money we have decided to not buy each other gifts this year (however, if he asks I have a list of things he could buy me). Anyway, I wanted to put some real brainpower into making something that will not only remind him just how amazing he is, but most importantly make him laugh.  Yet, I would totally be lying if I said I didn’t put just as much effort into finding the perfect V-Day outfit. Like usual, I have spent most of my class days browsing Pinterest for some Valentine’s inspiration and after hours of scouring my favorite stores I have put together the perfect ensemble, which I will reveal to you all in a couple of weeks. Since, there is still plenty of time for express shipping, I have decided to share some of my favorite pins to aid you in your own search for a classy and romantic outfit.

 Black Tulle Skirt

Tulle for Valentine’s Day. It’s obviously classic, girly and romantic, but it may be a little overdone. If you’re as obsessed and addicted to the tulle skirt as I am, surprise them with an all black tulle look. It’s unexpected, a little sexy and completely stunning! You’ll turn heads as soon as you walk into the room. No one said black can’t be romantic. Black wedding dresses are even and up and coming trend! So what are you waiting for? Go get ’em stunner!

Full Floral Skirt

Feeling more classic this Valentine’s dat? Give them some true vintage romance with a light floral and airy piece. A dress or skirt with a voluptuous silhouette calls upon better and simpler times. These romantic looks are perfect for a dinner date and maybe even a stroll through the local park, weather permitting of course. However, you’ll look like a dream no matter what the occasion.

Lace Top

Whether you have reservations for a candlelit dinner or you’d rather cook a meal at home, the lace top is perfect for you! Dress it down with a pair of jeans and you’ll be ready for a Valentine’s Day in, or add a beautiful skirt for a night in. Whatever your feeling, a lace skirt is a perfect way to show Cupid you’re ready for love.

Graphic Sweatshirt

Tell them exactly how you feel with a graphic sweatshirt on V-Day. It’s a more casual take on the day’s usual attire, but that doesn’t make it any less chic. Regardless of if your sweatshirt is paired with a feminine skirt or boyfriends jeans, you are ready for dinner and a movie. But, if you’re like me, you can take your sweatshirt straight to the couch for a Netflix marathon with your “person,” which we all know is the preferable option.

New Hair – So care!

For the last 6 years I have had the same little pixie cut. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my short hair, but sometimes you just need a change. About a year ago, I decided to grow my hair out; if any of you have ever tried to grow out a pixie, you understand how miserable it can be. After feeling like Shaggy for the last couple of months, I decided to change up my style and go for an edgier asymmetrical bob. Although I was a little shocked at first, I have grown to love my new do! And, as all of you know, nothing makes a girl feel better than a new haircut and today I am feeling sassy! So I am channeling that inner sass and amping up my usual floral look with some edgier accessories, including my favorite military jacket (which if you follow me on Instagram you see quite frequently), and some black knee-high socks. Finally, I pulled the look together with a simple, architectural gold cuff and a pair of layered necklaces. Hopefully, this style will last and I won’t end up in one of those “I HATE MY HAIR” moments in a few day. Don’t lie, you all know exactly what moment I am talking about.

5 Pairs of Printed Heels You Need for Spring

I’ve been talking about spring a lot lately, maybe it’s because the weather has finally warmed up around here or maybe it is because my Pinterest feed is full of shorts and sundresses. Whatever the reason, I am already prepping my closet for the day when I can officially say goodbye to my sweaters and break-out the sandals. There are a couple trends that I am dying to try out this spring season, one of which is the patterned heel. If you watched Nicole Miller’s Spring 2015 you were bound to have noticed these gorgeous sandals at least once:

I mean how could you not? They scream “Hello sunshine! Let’s go on vacation!” So instead of drooling over shoes that I will most-likely never own, I began my search for an affordable alternative. Here’s what I came up with:

5 Pairs of Printed Heels You Need for Spring:

The Go-To:

New Look Wide Fit Preview Faux Ponyskin Heeled Sandals – ASOS ($66.31)

They’re leopard, they’re chunky, they’ll go with everything AND they’re under $100! Need I say more?

The Co-Worker:

Leather Pumps – H&M ($99)

A classic silhouette along with time honored print, these pumps will make every co-worker jealous. The low-contrast and muted color palette will keep your work outfit feeling fresh without compromising on professionalism. These are a must have for the corporate girl!

The Art Student:

Stella Printed Fabric Pumps – J.Crew ($268)

Okay, these are definitely a lot pricier than most items I post, but if you are in the mood to splurge, get it girl! This is the perfect shoe for spring, especially if you enjoy funkier, vintage inspired patterns like I do. The color palette means you can wear them with anything. The silhouette is beautiful. A chunkier heel means they will be comfortable during those long summer nights and they’re J. Crew. So basically, meet your dream shoe… you’re welcome.

The Day Dream:

floral

Thrive Got Work to Do Heel – ModCloth ($144.99)

These. Shoes. Everything about them is just pretty. Definitely buy these shoes if you’re someone who frequents garden parties, spring weddings, baby showers… fairytale castles. Or just buy them. You won’t regret it. Just imagine how they will look with all of those spring yellows!

The Statement Maker:

polkadot

Legra Gem Platform Sandal – Topshop ($60)

Spring doesn’t have to be all about bright colors. Pledge your soul to the monochromatic with these platform sandals. The polka-dot pattern adds a sweet and girly touch to the edgier silhouette, so they will go with any outfit. Imagine how adorable these would look with a cute little sundress?

Weather or Not – A Layered Look for Spring

It has been a sunny 65 degrees here in the Natural State, and it has given me a little bit of hope that spring is coming. Yet, as much as I am loving this weather, it has sent my wardrobe for a loop. Since it has been getting back down into the 30s and 40s after the sun sets, I have had to find outfits that aren’t too hot during the day, but warm enough for night. This is where layering has really saved my butt.

Today I went for a classic mix of patterns (if you want, you can glance back at my Pattern Play post for some more inspiration) for my daytime look. This striped tee goes perfectly with these floral shorts, because of the difference in the weight of the prints. I also purchased these shorts with a coordinating blazer, which can be thrown on at night for a little warmth. Whenever I buy coordinates, I always make sure that I can wear the items separately as well. This gives me TRIPLE the use out of my purchase, by allowing me to create at least three unique outfits from one buy. (You can see the blazer paired with a classic denim outfit here). See, perfect!

Hopefully, this warm weather stays, but if we have a sudden change for the worst, this outfit is ready to brave the cold!

Got Mod? A Vintage Look for Everyday Wear

After a week of below freezing temperatures, it is finally starting to warm up around here. In celebration, I broke out this fantastic vintage dress which I nabbed from the sale rack at one of my favorite local stores, Grey Dog.Before I go into more detail about the outfit itself, I want to take a moment to talk about the store itself.

When I was a sophomore in high school, this little beauty of a shop opened in a renovated airstream trailer, and since I couldn’t even drive at the time, I would convince my mother to take me every chance I could. From the very first time I entered the store, the owner, Molly, was nothing but kind. She actually helped me pick out my first vintage dress and the many more that came after it. It has truly been such a joy to see this little store grow and I have had the opportunity throughout the years to further my relationship with every wonderful person who works at that beautiful little dream of a store.

So of course, when I stumbled upon this beautiful little purple mod number, it had to be mine. And despite the fact that it might not have been super weather appropriate, I just couldn’t leave this dress hanging in the closet until spring. So I put on my best pair of booties along with my felt floppy hat, and braved the cold in this pretty purple frock.

Floral Fairytale

It’s still too cold outside to venture too far off of my couch (or leave it at all), but unfortunately today I have errands to run, so I am adding on the layers and dreaming of spring in my outfit of the day.

I have had this maxi dress for awhile now, but hadn’t quite found an opportunity to wear it until recently. When I got this leather jacket, I knew it was the perfect way to dress down this amazing maxi and make it perfect for everyday wear. This dress is easily prettier than any of my high school prom dresses. From the fit and cut to the beautiful button detailing in the back, I can’t get enough. Of course the contrast between the black leather and the bright floral is the best part about this outfit and quickly takes makes this my new favorite!

Falling in Love

Fall is officially here! Fall in Arkansas is gorgeous, but I am not ready to give up my favorite summer items! Everyone has their own secrets when it comes to transitioning between seasons, here are mine!

workweek

During the work week I like to keep things more a bit more structured. A fitted blazer and a neutral pair of heels are the perfect way to dress up this romper! A natural stone necklace and a bright lip add a bit more interest to my work day, while still keeping my look professional.

weekend

Weekends are the perfect time to play with color! I layered a flowy maxi-skirt over my romper to create the illusion of a shirt and skirt. I love the combination of teal and red and this romper makes the perfect base! This outfit is perfect for a trip to the farmer’s market and lunch with friends!

sunday

Sunday is here so I am keeping my look casual and comfy! I LOVE the mix of subtle stripes and the vibrant floral pattern. This oversized sweater is perfect for cuddling up on the couch or a quick stroll around the block!
